Running With Jesus
Reigniting of my faith — on the treadmill
I slipped on an old pair of ASIC Kayano 23s. The green and blue exterior still shone against the light.
Age hadn’t taken a toll on the pair of runners but then again, I’d been running on and off in the past 7 years and I only used the pair of shoes indoors.
I stepped on the treadmill. The treadmill belt was light — in between a trampoline and concrete. Some would say like the rubber flooring you’d experience at a playground.
Incline: 2. Speed: 12 km/h.
The treadmill was warming up and so were my legs. The arches of my feet pressed against the custom orthotics, which were made to support my flat feet.
As the treadmill speed increased, my feet, legs and arms began working. I felt like a puppeteer. As my elbows raised, it took my knees with them.
After 30 seconds, the treadmill hit 12 km/h.
The goal of the run
Today’s goal was to hit a personal best. 1km in 5 minutes. This is a standard goal for a trained beginner runner.
Lacking perseverance
The one minute mark passed. 200 metres in. One fifth of the way to go.
