One thing infuriates me about this platform.

There’s just not enough data.

Admittedly, I have a very subjective view because I’m a data analyst by trade but I love writing as a way to express myself, synthesize ideas and of course make money.

In an ideal world, I’ll get completely disaggregated data that shows each reader’s top 5 interest and exactly how much time they’ve spent on each article all on a spreadsheet. Obviously, this is a touchy topic as it goes into data ethics and whether or not such a disaggregation level can identify a single user.

But, that’s not really the point…

Rather, the stats Medium provides is a good overview, but it’s such a high level overview, that it doesn’t lend itself well to giving us the ability to tailor our content precisely. You can always progress faster with targeted feedback than vague feedback.

This is like having a good and bad manager at work. A good manager who can really pinpoint what is wrong can help you exceed in your career. A bad manager will give you vague feedback and leave you stuck in the same job.
